During your initial consultation, you will meet with one of the physicians at the Ottawa Fertility Centre. If applicable, both partners are encouraged to attend. At this appointment, your medical histories will be reviewed and complete physical examinations may be conducted. A plan of investigation will be outlined and potential treatments may be discussed.

To arrange your initial consultation, we require a referral from your doctor. Please refer to Arrange an Appointment for further details. Currently, patients can expect to receive an appointment date within two months of our receipt of a referral letter from your doctor.

To help us with your evaluation, please have your doctor forward results of any previous fertility investigations including: hormone levels (FSH, LH, estradiol, TSH, prolactin, testosterone, DHEAS, progesterone), rubella titre, Hepatitis B/C and HIV serology, semen analysis, pelvic ultrasound and reports of any relevant surgery.

Will I have to pay for my initial consultation?

Appointments for Ontario residents with a valid OHIP card are usually insured as long as they are accompanied by a request for consultation from your doctor. Out-of-province patients and those without a valid OHIP card will be billed for their visit at the current Ontario Medical Association (OMA) rate.
